Cosy Autumn/ Winter Styling

3.png

Happy Monday,

I cannot believe we’re in April already. Whattt!? It was Christmas literally yesterday right? Anyway I am a total autumn girl so I am really looking forward to the seasonal changes. I love the cooler weather, the colours, the fashion, the interior trends and the nature so much more than summer or winter. Today, I’m going to show you how I have redecorated our guest bedroom with some gorgeous AW17 inspired product from Vicinity Centres.

As you can probably tell I am a bit linen crazy! It is such a good way to freshen up a room and introduce a new colour palette. I wanted to go with something a little warmer this season, so I chose some new bedding that consists of creams, mushroom and a dull pink. Mustard is amazing in children’s interior but I much prefer something softer in an adult’s room. Below are the items I picked up from my local Vicinity Centre last week. You can find your closest centre here.

  4. Linen cotton quilt cover set, linen || Target || Shop Here
  5. VUE Hayley throw, cameo rose || Myer || Shop Here
  6. Hampden cushion, natural/blush || Adairs || Shop Here

As you can see from the list above I chose pieces from a range of stores and in varying price points. Some are budget friendly while others are more expensive. I like to shop this way because it makes buying seasonally more achievable and it keeps my hubby (and bank account) somewhat happy.

Décor is another aspect of a room that I like to change up every now and then. I always style my bedside tables to compliment the linen, so in this case I have used some warm earthy tones and a clay vase to add a bit of texture. Wood, handmade porcelain and clay homewares are a personal favourite at the moment. They give a little more life to the surrounding space in comparison to a flat surfaced vase and they work back with the raw materials of the linen perfectly. Below are the décor items I picked up from my local Vicinity Centre last week. You can find your closest centre here.

  2. 50 x 70cm timber frames || Kmart || Shop Here
  3. Sand clay planter || Myer || Shop Here
  4. Kingston small bowl || Myer || Available In Store

Last of all, don’t forget to add some greenery or floral into your room styling. Having either a plant or a small posy of flowers on one bedside table will help freshen up the room and bring some nature into the space. If you’re not too much of a green thumb, try buying a rubber plant. They look great and have hardwearing dark green/burgundy foliage. As for flowers, I adore the soft, fluffy texture of hydrangeas. If you’re worried about fresh flowers not lasting very long, you can try the hydrangea revival trick I blogged about a couple of months ago.

Well I hope this has inspired you to get your styling cap on and create a warm, cosy bedroom for the cooler months approaching. Have a lovely week!

Much love,

T xx

Chet’s Toddler Bedroom

chetsroom5.png

Happy Monday!!

I think it’s probably time to post a few photos of Chet’s room, don’t you think lol? It’s bright and full of his favourite things at the moment… animals!! Chet loves (absolutely adores) them, so I have very loosely designed his room around animals. It has a fun, modern scandi vibe and I like that the room doesn’t follow a generic theme eg it’s not marine animals, farm animals or woodland animals etc… In replacement of sticking to a ‘theme’ I have used a consistent colour palette instead, to achieve a sweet toddler space for our little love.

You may recognise the Milton and King wallpaper from a recent install I did for another lucky little boy- Thomas. I fell in love with it originally for Chet’s room although I didn’t think Shaun would let me put wallpaper up because “I change my mind too often.” Fair call babe, but after specifying and getting it installed in Thomas’s bedroom, I was sold… It is a design that is super versatile and that can adapt as he grows older. The details are listed further down in the ‘Shop the Look’ section.

Another piece I wanted to keep was a canopy. Yes I know, it seems like everyone in the world has one, but I definitely needed a large area (of contrasting colour) to break up the two walls of patterned wallpaper. I switched from our previous white Numero 74 canopy to an ice blue one from Talo Interiors to make more of a statement. I then paired it with the matching ice blue quilt and mixed blues garland to tie everything in. I bought a bunch of other great children’s decor from Talo Interiors but I’ll list them further down in the ‘Shop the Look’ section.

Please Note- Before hanging anything over an infant’s sleeping space please read through the SIDS guidelines first. You can find one here.

One of the questions I get asked most about is where I bought Chet’s furniture from- you can find it all on the Urban Baby website. We have the River Single Bed, Night Stand and Merlin 3 Draw Dresser. All three pieces are Oeuf NYC brand. The craftsmanship is amazing, the price is reasonable and they are simply great quality products. I’m super dooper happy with our purchases and the level of service I always receive from Russell and Amelia.

Chet’s room (actually all the rooms in our home) are teensy tiny so I did face some struggles while designing his room. The bed can literally only go in that one spot because it has the bench seat on the end which makes it a fair bit longer than a normal single size bed. On the left of the drawers is Chet’s wardrobe so the dresser can only be put in that one spot as well. The wall in between the curtains and the canopy is not large enough to have two 50x70cm prints on the wall, but it is too large for just one…

I have always loved the animal print shop’s beautiful prints so I bit the bullet and purchased one of their limited edition ‘Baby Porcupine’ prints. It’s amazing, huge (86x100cm framed) and fits along that wall perfectly. I had Terraze at Art’s Edge frame it for me and she did such an outstanding job. I also got the glass upgraded so the reflections don’t show as harshly- best investment everrrr!

17.png

13.png

One of the other tricky factors I had to consider was the corner window of Chet’s room. It is not only a corner window; it’s a floor to ceiling corner window lol. So as much as I adore the natural sunlight it lets in, I find it tricky to style that area because anything I photograph there ‘blows out.’ It also means that I need to use different height variations so there isn’t a huge white space above the storage baskets. I was thinking either a children’s coat rack or floor lamp. I was so torn until I found the Cuba Floor Lamp from Life Interiors. The colour is spot on and it looks amazing in this corner of his room.

It was so lovely to show Chet his room after the wallpaper and main items went in. We actually had my nephews over that weekend and you should have heard Chet. He said, “Come on Noah and Oookey (Lukey,) i’ll show my tiger,” in the most excited squeaky voice. Gah heart explosion. So they went off to his room and started parading around like wild beasts lol. Anyway, it feels great to have such a fun, vibrant room in our home that will help inspire creativity and his growing little mind.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding Chet’s room or if you would like design help with your little love’s bedroom/ playroom.

5 EtsyAu Stores You’ll Love

1.png

Hey Everyone,

If you follow me closely on Instagram, you would have seen me posting about some of the loveliest products I have recently found on Etsy Au. There are so many incredible creatives on there and I searched for days/ weeks finding beautiful pieces for our master bedroom before committing to orders. Sorry guys this isn’t a master bedroom ‘tour’ but I thought it would be cool to share the love and show you all some extremely talented Aussie small businesses. To make things fun, I’ll also provide direct links to various home decor products I think you will fall in love with.

I’m such a sucker for linen, textiles and decor because they can completely transform the look and feel of a room. I really enjoyed shopping on Etsy Au because most of the products are handmade and often one of a kind. I especially love seeing tiny imperfections in the ceramic products. It makes them unique and it’s also great to have some gorgeous decor that you know cannot be replicated by huge budget retailers! There are actual faces and families behind the brand you’re supporting, which is such a satisfying feeling. Lastly, the quality of everything delivered exceeded my expectations ten fold and I can only put it down to the creators having so much passion for their work.

Anyway I think that’s enough ramble, now I’ll show you some cool Etsy AU stores…

Much Love

Top 10 Kid’s Beds

1

Happy weekend everyone,

One of my goals for the blog this year is to write a lot more. Sometimes life gets chaotic and drafts get put on the back burner but when I get in my element, I find it really relaxing. Today, I want to share a bunch of children’s beds that I adore at the moment… All 10 of them.

A bed is one of the biggest investment pieces you will buy when decorating your child’s bedroom so it needs to be versatile and comfortable. It also needs to encourage sleep and relaxation but lets be honest here… it also needs to look cool lol. Below I have listed 10 of my favourite designs, which are available to purchase in Australia.

First up is the Oliver Furniture bed available at Design Stuff Group. Need I say more? This bed has a strong Scandinavian design, being simple yet stylish AF. The white surround and contrasting oak legs literally make this children’s bed by far my favourite. Additional extras include a security bed rail and trundle (because who doesn’t love extra storage.)

Next up is the stunning Mini Soho bed from Bed Nest. I love the cozy feeling that upholstered beds give to a children’s space, especially when paired with soft linen and cushions. There are a bunch of fabric colours to choose from and with this in mind, you can have a lot of fun designing a bed to suit your little one’s personality.

Ahh, the Oeuf River Bed available at Urban Baby Shop! So gorgeous and I can say this with confidence because this is the bed I bought for Chet. It comes in either Birch/ White or Walnut/White and has the complimenting bedroom furniture to match. The little bench seat at the bottom is a huge hit in our home and we have already created some beautiful memories cuddling in here.

The Crescent Bed is the product of a gorgeous collaboration between Peony Home and Belinda Kurtz from Petite Interior Co. The shape of this bed head is simple, but it also makes a great (and super fun) statement, especially with the contrast piping. There are 4 colours to choose from (in both the frame and piping) so it can be customised for either a lucky little boy or girl.

OMG, I adore this bed. I would buy it in a heartbeat (right now) if I had the room to put it… Maybe it’s time to clear out some space yeah? It’s the London Day Bed from Byron Bay Hanging Chairs styled beautifully in the home of Live Loud Girl. It’s unique and super versatile, which is perfect for growing children… and growing personalities.

All the heart eyes for this Brittany Bed from Early Settler, styled in the home of Blonde and Bone. If you want a sweet, girly bed with rustic charm, this is the bed for your little love. Even 5 year old me would have appreciated the gorgeous carved detailing.

The Fenwick Headboards from Heatherly Designs are super fun and super dooper cute. You can really let your imagination run wild with these because you can choose both the fabric and cross stitch colours. The best thing about customising a piece of furniture is that it will reflect your children’s personality and it becomes a feature piece in the room.

|| Shop Here ||

heatherly-design.jpg

On the topic of customising, the Knect4 bed from Mubu Home is another one of my faves. It has a Birch Ply frame and comes in 5 colour options. Birch/White, Birch/Nude, Birch/Latte Grey, Birch/Dusty Blue and all Birch. Gah, so many ‘birch’ words in one sentence but it is a gorgeous looking material that looks great in children’s bedrooms.

Oooo this is a bed head I am dying to use in a kid’s bedroom. The Palm Springs headboard from Family Love Tree gives such a calm and grounded presence. It could be played up with earthy boho colours or styled effortlessly with calming neutrals. This design can easily be made less ‘adult’ with some fun pom poms and a vibrant Moroccan rug, but can also adapt well into your child’s teenage years.

|| Shop Here ||

Last but not least Plyroom– I absolutely adore everything these guys create. Their designs are understated and minimal yet, super stylish. Without intending this piece will become a feature piece within itself, especially if the bedding allows the frame and detailing to be visible. The Singolo design is versatile to suit either gender and will grow with your children well into their teenage years. Styled and photographed by me in the stunning home of Jenni Farr @designdevotee.

With all this chat of beds, I better jump into my own and get some shut eye… Then wake up tomorrow (I mean today it’s almost 1am argh) and have six coffees because I have both my nephews coming over for a play date with Chet.

Have a lovely Saturday.

Much Love,

Joshua’s Toddler Bedroom

Bailey.png

Hello everyone.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I can’t believe it is Christmas this week YAYYY!

Today I want to spam you with Joshua’s new toddler bedroom that I styled on Friday and Saturday. His beautiful mumma Bailey contacted me a few months ago when their  home was in the midst of renovations. She had already bought most of the product but needed help with furniture/art direction, putting it all together and styling it. So that’s where I came in and boy-oh-boy is it stunning.

All the finishes and details in their newly renovated home scream elegance so we wanted to keep this room quite minimal and clean… but still fun for a growing little boy. There are two floor to ceiling built in wardrobes which are beyond incredible, so a dresser wasn’t necessary in this room. Instead we created a little reading nook as well as a library area where Joshua can store extra books and toys. His new Mini Mod was a huge hit and seeing how much he liked it made me ‘need’ one for Chet lol. Way cooler than a standard beanbag and the perfect size for a kid’s bedroom or play area!

Below are some images I took and a “Shop the Look” design concept. Feel free to follow the shopping links to direct product listings. Make sure you also head over to their social media pages to be notified of any Boxing Day sales being held.

A magical Christmas in our home

7.png

To say I am excited about Christmas this year is a total understatement. I’m not going to lie, the past few years I have been a complete Grinch and really didn’t get into the spirit of decorating. Obviously Christmas is about celebrating love, reflecting on the past year, eating great food and laughing with family and friends but I also believe some of the magic and sparkle stems when you start decorating your tree and home.

This year Chet is at a beautiful age where he understands a bit more about Christmas and gets excited about the pretty lights, decorations and pressies. He is also old enough this year to get involved in the decorating process and that is what I am really excited about. I put on my super mum undies and took him to our closest Vicinity Centre so we could do a huge Christmas shop. I’m talking a new tree, fairy lights, decorations, wrapping paper, Xmas day outfits, Xmas gifts, a huge delicious ham and of course I ended up buying multiple toys for Chet – a little bribery along the way.

1

I really wanted to achieve a modern take on the “Traditional Christmas” style to suit our living room decor. I stuck with a mainly white / metallic / red colour palette and used mercury glass tree decorations to introduce classic details. I also styled some rustic logs to help add charm and my big “must have” was sparkle. Lots of fairy lights adorn the tree that creates a magical and festive corner in our home.

I put up our new tree over the weekend and every evening since, Chet has said “mumma light on.” I thought he meant our normal ceiling lights at first until he dragged me over to the power point. Too cute! To me that is the meaning of Christmas. Seeing your little love’s face light up when the Christmas tree sparkles is just so heart warming. His smile and the expression on his face makes me reflect on how much he has grown the past year and how quickly time is flying.

I’m not going to tell you how to “style your tree” because I think it is a personal celebration to enjoy with your loved ones. However if you want to add a little more sparkle to your home (or your tree) this Chrissy, I have created a shopping list below of where to find the items we purchased over the weekend.
