A magical Christmas in our home

To say I am excited about Christmas this year is a total understatement. I’m not going to lie, the past few years I have been a complete Grinch and really didn’t get into the spirit of decorating. Obviously Christmas is about celebrating love, reflecting on the past year, eating great food and laughing with family and friends but I also believe some of the magic and sparkle stems when you start decorating your tree and home.

This year Chet is at a beautiful age where he understands a bit more about Christmas and gets excited about the pretty lights, decorations and pressies. He is also old enough this year to get involved in the decorating process and that is what I am really excited about. I put on my super mum undies and took him to our closest Vicinity Centre so we could do a huge Christmas shop. I’m talking a new tree, fairy lights, decorations, wrapping paper, Xmas day outfits, Xmas gifts, a huge delicious ham and of course I ended up buying multiple toys for Chet – a little bribery along the way.

I really wanted to achieve a modern take on the “Traditional Christmas” style to suit our living room decor. I stuck with a mainly white / metallic / red colour palette and used mercury glass tree decorations to introduce classic details. I also styled some rustic logs to help add charm and my big “must have” was sparkle. Lots of fairy lights adorn the tree that creates a magical and festive corner in our home.

We put up our new tree over the weekend and every evening since, Chet has said “mumma light on.” I thought he meant our normal ceiling lights at first until he dragged me over to the power point. Too cute! To me that is the meaning of Christmas. Seeing your little love’s face light up when the Christmas tree sparkles is just so heart warming. His smile and the expression on his face makes me reflect on how much he has grown the past year and how lucky Shaun and I are to have such a gorgeous blessing in our life.

Well that’s me for today. I hope you all have an incredible love-filled December surrounded by special people and apologies in advance for the Christmas spam on insta. Shaun says I’ve gone a little crazy.

Much love,

  1. Hi Tarina,

Love reading your articles & thank you for sharing your home with us. Thank you for sharing your Christmas ideas as well with us. I am the same as you, I’ve let many go by without putting up a tree in my home & this year I decided to get into the spirit & totally went all out like you as well. Each night, after a long day (even though I don’t have children) I look so forward to turning on the lights. It really makes you feel the spirit.

Can I ask where you got the wooden logs from? They a beautiful addition to the setting.

Well done – I do love all your interior work

    1. Hi Debbe,

Thanks so much for your comment. It sounds like you have a magical set up at home. It definitely gets you in the spirit and also I found I was more motivated and organised. I’m pretty much finished my shopping but last year (and previous years) I was a Christmas Eve shopper.

The logs I actually borrowed from my mum who has an events hire company. If you email me I can let you know her details.

      Merry Christmas 🎄
