Homebuyers Centre WA Turns 30!

I mean it’s a milestone and an accomplishment within itself- 30 years of making first homes happen, and building over 30,000 of them in that time frame!! I feel like I’ve become part of the family at Homebuyers Centre WA – trusting them to build two of my own homes, and also decorating their Display Homes for almost 4 years (gee whizz that has flown by!)

To celebrate HBC are giving back to their community this month with a bunch of giveaways happening on their social media platforms. In addition, I thought it would be a great idea (especially for those who have terrible luck winning competitions) to bring you an exclusive sale featuring over 30 AMAZING stores, each with exclusive sales on offer! Use HBHOMEBUYERS at the checkout, for the full month of August and the relevant discount will be applied to your cart. Scroll through the below list to view all the stores and discounts available (some even include sale items- Whoop!)

Aura Boy’s Room

6linebreakWelcome back!!

Today I’m thrilled to show you some more images of this vibrant boy’s room I created for Homebuyers Centre in their new Aura Display Home, located at 68 Muriel Court, Cockburn Central. I absolutely adore this room and thoroughly enjoyed designing, then bringing it to life. In this entry, you can read a little more about the process as I explain some of my design choices and product selections. You can also easily recreate this look at home with the linked ‘Shop the Look’ section below. linebreakpalette2linebreakMy starting point for this space was the ‘Fractile’ wallpaper mural. It was the foundation of my design and the room’s colour palette is drawn from the earthy green, ochre and sand tones featured in the wallpaper. When I found it on Scandinavian Wallpaper and Decor’s website, I immediately asked Lollo (nicely of course) to customise the measurements for me. Once we confirmed and made the order, I began choosing artwork and linen to compliment the space and work back with the mural.

For the main bedding I chose the Ivy Vintage Wash Quilt from Adairs and paired it back with a simple white/linen pinstripe sheet combo. I then used a variety of different size cushions, with mixed textures and earthy tones to position on the bed. The texture helps create a warm, cosy feel and the chosen colours give the room harmony because they are cohesive throughout the space with other elements, like the art and decor.linebreak1linebreak

Aside from ‘colour’ the other two main elements of design I focused on were the emphasis on line and shape.

The use of a rough, illustrated line is repeated throughout areas of the room like the wallpaper, rug, sheets and artwork. I then also used a circle/ round shape multiple times, for example in the rug, cushions, ottoman, wall hooks etc. By emphasising these elements through repetition, it ensures the room is balanced and not visually overwhelming.

I hope you all like this room as much as I do! Please feel free to shop the look below, or if you’re located in Perth you can check out the Aura Display Home in person- details here.

Much Love, T ♡

Shop the Skater Look

BanksiaGroveBoys.pnglinebreak

Good evening everyone!

I recently completed this fun, skate inspired bedroom for Homebuyers Centre WA and I’m so happy with the way it turned out. I have compiled a list of the supplier details and created a ‘shop the look’ section below with clickable links for anyone wanting to source items from this vibrant boy’s room.  You can also check out this space in person at the new ‘Ascend’  display home in Banksia Grove (address and details here.)

In the coming weeks I will write a separate blog entry on designing fun-filled kid’s bedrooms and how to style with colour. It will be quite informative and full of handy tips, so stay tuned.

Have a lovely week!

The best coastal art prints

theatre2linebreakHey everyone!

Recently I have been uploading snippets of a new coastal display home I completed in March and a recurring question I keep getting asked is, “where is the art from?” Last night, I compiled a list of prints that I purchased for the home, including easy shopping links so you can steal the look and easily find the supplier details. Most of the artwork is available in various sizes and framing options are also available.

Below are a few tips I follow when buying artwork to ensure they are all consistent with the theme of the home.

I order all my prints unframed and get them framed up by George at Demmer Gallery in Osborne Park. This keeps the shipping cost down because to get a framed print shipped to Perth is much more expensive, purely because of the weight. I also buy some ready made poster frames from Spotlight for prints going in ‘non-feature’ areas of the home.

One of the most important things I consider when buying art is if the colours and tones all work well together. So for example, in this home I wanted soft, muted blues and natural tones, with an exception of the boy’s bedroom. If you purchase a few posters from one photographer or one store, you’ll notice a lot of their post production, presets and filters are the same so the colours are always quite similar… This is great if you want to use two prints side-by-side.

I buy a lot of landscape artwork because I like to put prints in the bathroom, ensuite, laundry and hallways. They fill the wall space better and create visual interest in areas that are sometimes left bare. If there is a large wall to hang artwork on, I will always look for a matching pair of portrait prints. I find having two large portraits, fills the wall better than one large landscape… unless it’s above a sofa or bed etc!

Well they’re my top three tips for purchasing artwork and ensuring you keep a consistent flow throughout the home. Feel free to shop the featured coastal prints by clicking on the corresponding numbers below.

Take care,

Styling a monochrome bedroom.

Aveley Master2linebreakHey everyone,

I can’t believe it’s Feb already and this is my first post for the year! I’ve been a bit slack on blog entries lately, but I had lots of questions on my feed last night about products used in the master bedroom of the ‘Odelle’ Homebuyers Centre display home. I honestly don’t mind replying to each and every question asked, but it does consume quite a lot time after hours, so hopefully you guys don’t mind me whacking all the information in one ‘shop the look’ post.

If you’re stopping by to read more about the design process and composition of this bedroom, feel free to scroll further down. I will share some basic tips on styling a monochrome space and explain the choices I made to ensure the room still has visual impact.

If you love the monochrome look and want to create an inviting bedroom, try applying some of the below tips.

  1. Use timber accents to create warmth. Adding oak alongside the grey, black and white tones will soften the space and make it feel more inviting.
  2. Use enough timber to create harmony. For example, if you split the main image into thirds I’ve used the warmth of oak in each section (top, middle and bottom.) Top- the frames and pendant details, middle- the bedsides and bottom- the bench seat and tray. By repeating the use of this material, it ensures that the overall room feels balanced.
  3. Add soft textures. Soft textures will soften the contrasting colour palette and create a warm, cosy space.
  4. Repeat the textures if possible. By using similar textures throughout the bedroom it makes the space feel balanced (just like the repetition of timber I touched on above.) For example, The fluffiness of the native artwork has been repeated in the soft fringing on the bedding and the hide on the floor… which again is placed in their own ‘thirds grid.’
  5. Add some greenery or foliage. By styling a small bouquet of flowers or foliage on a bedside table, it helps bring life into the space and also adds a pop of colour without being a ‘feature colour.’
  6. Add a feature to the bedroom. Usually colour would be a point of interest within itself, so when styling a monochrome palette I would normally use a main feature and then a few smaller details that still add visual interest. I wanted the main feature here to be the 3m headboard because even though the design is pretty basic, the scale of it creates a lasting impression. Other features within the design would be the bold, contrasting artwork, the detailed handles on the bedsides, the ribbed pendants and woven bench seat. All these elements are textured which is why I have kept the headboard design and bed styling pretty simple.

Homebuyers Girl’s Room

homebuyersGIRLS.png

Hey everyone,

First of all I wanted to thank you for all the love and messages on my previous post. It was really comforting knowing other women could relate in one way or another. So thank you, I was heart warmed by each comment and private message.

Today I’m going to share some really cute images from the girl’s bedroom I recently completed in the Homebuyers Centre ‘Norfolk’ display home. This room is super sweet and if you’re in Perth you can check it out in person at 4 Quinn Street (off Farrell Road) in Midvale. The opening hours are:

Monday and Wednesday 2pm – 5pm

Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 5pm

It’s a beautiful 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home design, with an open plan living area, theatre, kid’s zone and large alfresco area. I have kept the furniture and decor selections light and bright with a fairly neutral colour palette and the occasional pop of blush. If you want some inspiration or are looking at building your first home, head over to Homebuyers Centre for all the details on how you could receive an interior styling consult with me. Whoooop!

The girl’s bedroom is probably one of my favourite rooms because I love the blush, white and soft blue colour palette. The warm and cool tones work beautifully together and it creates something different, in comparison to the very popular blush and white scheme for a little girl. I will admit the soft blue product is quite hard to find so I will upload a ‘Shop the Look’ concept further down, with easy shopping links so you can find a majority of the product I have used. If something is sold out online, you may want to contact the store directly and see if it’s in stock somewhere close by because this job was bought and installed only a month ago (sometimes online sells out quicker than in store.)

Often I get asked where I ‘start’ when designing/styling a kid’s room and usually my answer is the art or wallpaper. In this case it was the Sara Winfield art but I also wanted a subtle wallpaper that didn’t take away from the print. I locked in a neutral star wallpaper from Wall Candy (in Perth) but the next step was to find a couple of other prints that complimented the Sara artwork nicely. I approached Little Design Haus to customise her ‘Scandinavian Flowers’ set, changing out the grey for blue. I adore the finished product and they work beautifully opposite the Sara art. From there, I hunted for blush and soft blue decor/bedding to create balance in this magical little space.

I also wanted to hang a canopy off center to create interest and fill the wall space a little more. I decided to break away from the usual brand I use and try a Spinkie Baby design. Oh my gosh, it’s so soft and pretty. Perfect if you’re wanting to create a dreamy girl’s bedroom or play area. You can choose either a gold or silver crown, or leave it off completely, so it’s quite a versatile styling piece. The Australian stockist is listed further down in the ‘Shop the Look’ section.

To keep costs down and work within my allocated budget I used affordable furniture and focused on spending more on cute decor/ styling pieces. The desk is from Adairs and the bed is from Fantastic Furniture (links below) so I thought these were great little finds that really helped me stay within my fairly tight budget. By watching what I spent on the large ticket items, I was able to buy some cool books from Jack and Willow as well as some gorgeous bedding from various stores below.

Well I better get linking all the product because it will be fairly long. If you have any questions or if I have left something out, feel free to comment below and I’ll answer asap 🙂 Oh and make sure if you’re in Perth you go check it out in person.

Much Love,

T xx
