Homebuyers Girl’s Room

Hey everyone,

First of all I wanted to thank you for all the love and messages on my previous post. It was really comforting knowing other women could relate in one way or another. So thank you, I was heart warmed by each comment and private message.

Today I’m going to share some really cute images from the girl’s bedroom I recently completed in the Homebuyers Centre ‘Norfolk’ display home. This room is super sweet and if you’re in Perth you can check it out in person at 4 Quinn Street (off Farrell Road) in Midvale. The opening hours are:

Monday and Wednesday 2pm – 5pm

Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 5pm

It’s a beautiful 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home design, with an open plan living area, theatre, kid’s zone and large alfresco area. I have kept the furniture and decor selections light and bright with a fairly neutral colour palette and the occasional pop of blush. The girl’s bedroom is probably one of my favourite rooms because I love the blush, white and soft blue colour palette. The warm and cool tones work beautifully together and it creates something different, in comparison to the very popular blush and white scheme for a little girl. I will admit the soft blue product is quite hard to find so I will upload a ‘Shop the Look’ concept further down, with easy shopping links so you can find a majority of the product I have used. If something is sold out online, you may want to contact the store directly and see if it’s in stock somewhere close by because this job was bought and installed only a month ago (sometimes online sells out quicker than in store.)

Often I get asked where I ‘start’ when designing/styling a kid’s room and usually my answer is the art or wallpaper. In this case it was the Sara Winfield art but I also wanted a subtle wallpaper that didn’t take away from the print. I locked in a neutral star wallpaper from Wall Candy (in Perth) but the next step was to find a couple of other prints that complimented the Sara artwork nicely. I approached Little Design Haus to customise her ‘Scandinavian Flowers’ set, changing out the grey for blue. I adore the finished product and they work beautifully opposite the Sara art. From there, I hunted for blush and soft blue decor/bedding to create balance in this magical little space.

I also wanted to hang a canopy off center to create interest and fill the wall space a little more. I decided to break away from the usual brand I use and try a Spinkie Baby design. Oh my gosh, it’s so soft and pretty. Perfect if you’re wanting to create a dreamy girl’s bedroom or play area. You can choose either a gold or silver crown, or leave it off completely, so it’s quite a versatile styling piece. The Australian stockist is listed further down in the ‘Shop the Look’ section.

To keep costs down and work within my allocated budget I used affordable furniture and focused on spending more on cute decor/ styling pieces. The desk is from Adairs and the bed is from Fantastic Furniture (links below) so I thought these were great little finds that really helped me stay within my fairly tight budget. By watching what I spent on the large ticket items, I was able to buy some cool books from Jack and Willow as well as some gorgeous bedding from various stores below.

My Favourite 10 Cots

Happy Monday everyone.

A couple of months ago I posted about my favourite Children’s beds and I had a lot of great feedback from it. Quite a few people requested a similar post listing my favourite cots, so over the past few weeks I have compiled a collection of cot/bassinet designs that are available on the Australian market. They are listed below with easy shopping links for all the mumma’s needing a new cot or wanting to update their baby’s old one.

I have also tried to find beautiful images to represent each design so please have a squizz at the photo sources at the end of this blog post. I hope you love them as much as I do.

The stunning Kalon Studios ‘Caravan Crib’ is one of my favourite cots! It has a simple yet classic design which oozes style and is suitable for either gender!… Oh and the best part is that you can take the front rail off (or all four rails) and convert it into an adorable toddler bed.

The Oeuf NYC ‘Sparrow Cot’ comes in a few different colours including white, grey and birch. I love using Oeuf NYC products because the quality is great and you can pair it back with other furniture in the sparrow range.

The Leander cot has been in the spotlight for a few years now, however, it is clear to see why! The shape and overall design gives such a sleek Scandinavian feel. It can be easily converted into a toddler bed and an additional extension kit/mattress can be purchased so that the toddler bed becomes a Junior size bed. With 5 different configurations available, it is an investment piece you will have for many years.

Oh Gosh, I just had to include this gorgeous bassinet from Byron Bay Hanging Chairs. It would be a crime not to, right? The shape, material, size, everything…. even the wheels are so beautiful. The convenience of having wheels on a bassinet is so handy when bub is a newborn, especially if you feed in another room. Eg I fed Chet in our Theatre room, burped, then put him to sleep and wheeled him back into our room.

The Oeuf ‘Rhea Cot’ is one of my favourite cots because it incorporates both wood and white tones in one design. It works perfectly back with other Oeuf products and has a classic/ timeless shape. It can also convert into a toddler bed if you purchase the additional conversion kit.

If you love the above cot, but want something a little more feminine looking the Baby Letto ‘Lolly Cot’ will be right up your ally. While we are on the topic of girly cots, the ‘Blythe Crib’ from Pottery Barn Kids is the epitome of feminine. The detailing in the wood, the upholstery, buttons and tufts, even the colour ‘Vintage Grey’ is stunning.

The ‘Ava Cot’ from Plyroom has so many incredible details. The entire unit is made from sustainably forested European Birch ply which means there are no MDF components or metal fixings. Not only can it be converted into a toddler bed, it can also transform into a children’s desk! Genius!!

The ‘Sniglar Cot’ from IKEA is the most affordable and versatile design I have featured in this post. At only $119AUD you really cannot go wrong with this simple solid beech cot. You will get plenty of inspo if you type it into Pinterest, including projects where people have painted the rails to suit their nursery palette.

The ‘Sleepi Bed’ by Stokke is another popular design among expecting mums. The shape gives an unconventional look and the canopy is oh-so-cute. As I mentioned above, I found wheels super handy when Chet was a baby…  My best friend actually has this bassinet/ cot and I know she loves the convenience of the wheels too.

My second bassinet feature goes to the gorgeous ‘Macrame Bassinet’ from Olli Ella. If you’re a fan of vintage/ boho style, you need to check this one out. It is a beautiful design that could easily be incorporated into either a boy, girl or gender neutral nursery.

The ‘Georgia Cot’ from Incy Interiors has an adorable rounded edge with beautiful spindle rails and a detailed surround. Incy also have a large range of gorgeous cots including the rose gold metal cot which has been hugely popular over the past couple of years.

Last, but definitely not least is this gorgeous wicker bassinet from Pottery Barn Kids. If you want to replicate a vintage inspired nursery this style is perfect and it also comes in a darker Taupe colour. The mattress comes included in the price and the basket also comes off the base so you can use it as a sleep basket in another room.

Well I hope this list has helped someone discover a new brand or design they may like to purchase for their little love. With so many cots on the Australian market I really did have a hard time narrowing these down. I could have easily listed 20 or more, but I would be writing this blog post for another week haha. Ella’s Teenage Bedroom Makeover

Happy Friday everyone!

I’ve been a bit quiet the past couple of weeks with a load of briefs and design concepts to work through. In saying that, today I would love to show you some pictures of Ella’s new teenage bedroom. My clients Narelle and Andrew contacted me a couple of months ago to give me the rundown of what Ella imagines her dream space to look like. The outcome reflects her personality perfectly and it is a versatile room that she can grow with throughout her teenage years.

I was super excited to start this project because I created Kate’s teenage bedroom last year (Ella’s older sister.). We have loosely replicated the furniture layout to match Kate’s, however, the two rooms look so different. Cohesive, yet different! We decorated both spaces using some budget friendly pieces to ensure that we maintained two realistic teenage bedrooms. We all know that teens go through phases, and lots of them!!! Heck I remember listening to Ciara one minute… and My Chemical Romance the next (lol!!!!!)

Ella liked the idea of an urban bedroom so we chose to decorate the room in this style instead of furnishing it head to toe in themed product. If I had chosen either rustic wood or metal furniture, Ella would be tied to this particular style for several years. Whereas, by keeping the furniture simple and fairly modern, the room has versatility and can easily be redecorated if Ella grows out of the urban style. This is also a good option if you like to follow seasonal trends.

One of our ‘must have items’ was the Ivory and Deene hammock chair. The room is quite small so we saved a tonne of floor space by having a hanging chair instead of a regular occasional chair. Ella can also slide the leather ottoman underneath the hammock so it is out of the way when not in use. Other than being a great space saver, I chose this piece because it fits the look perfectly… Oh and did I mention it’s only $79.00 Whattttt?!  Please note that we added support beams in the roof for extra safety. It’s easy if you know what you’re doing.

Another product we had to have in Ella’s room was the You Rock poster from Seek and Style. When I showed Narelle it was an instant YES and she stated that it could actually be Ella in the image!! Shorts and Dr Marten’s (or Converse) are her thing, so the poster was totally fitting for her new space. I also strung up a polaroid photo wall behind the hammock chair, however, I didn’t photograph this in detail because I don’t feel right putting her personal memories all over my blog. You can kind of see the twinkle lights in the above image though 🙂

Ella and her family were so happy with the end result and of course I am too. Especially when taking into consideration that a lot of these products are budget friendly. It goes to show if you choose wisely and decorate with a particular theme or colour palette in mind, you can produce a lovely room for less than you think.  If you would like help with a bedroom makeover please feel free to contact me and say, “hiii.” Contact Details here. Top 10 Kid’s Beds

Happy weekend everyone,

One of my goals for the blog this year is to write a lot more. Sometimes life gets chaotic and drafts get put on the back burner but when I get in my element, I find it really relaxing. Today, I want to share a bunch of children’s beds that I adore at the moment… All 10 of them.

A bed is one of the biggest investment pieces you will buy when decorating your child’s bedroom so it needs to be versatile and comfortable. It also needs to encourage sleep and relaxation but lets be honest here… it also needs to look cool lol. Below I have listed 10 of my favourite designs, which are available to purchase in Australia.

First up is the Oliver Furniture bed available at Design Stuff Group. Need I say more? This bed has a strong Scandinavian design, being simple yet stylish AF. The white surround and contrasting oak legs literally make this children’s bed by far my favourite. Additional extras include a security bed rail and trundle (because who doesn’t love extra storage.)

Next up is the stunning Mini Soho bed from Bed Nest. I love the cozy feeling that upholstered beds give to a children’s space, especially when paired with soft linen and cushions. There are a bunch of fabric colours to choose from and with this in mind, you can have a lot of fun designing a bed to suit your little one’s personality.

Ahh, the Oeuf River Bed available at Urban Baby Shop! So gorgeous and I can say this with confidence because this is the bed I bought for Chet. It comes in either Birch/ White or Walnut/White and has the complimenting bedroom furniture to match. The little bench seat at the bottom is a huge hit in our home and we have already created some beautiful memories cuddling in here.

The Crescent Bed is the product of a gorgeous collaboration between Peony Home and Belinda Kurtz from Petite Interior Co. The shape of this bed head is simple, but it also makes a great (and super fun) statement, especially with the contrast piping. There are 4 colours to choose from (in both the frame and piping) so it can be customised for either a lucky little boy or girl.

OMG, I adore this bed. I would buy it in a heartbeat (right now) if I had the room to put it… Maybe it’s time to clear out some space yeah? It’s unique and super versatile, which is perfect for growing children… and growing personalities.

All the heart eyes for this Brittany Bed from Early Settler, styled in the home of Blonde and Bone. If you want a sweet, girly bed with rustic charm, this is the bed for your little love. Even 5 year old me would have appreciated the gorgeous carved detailing.

The Fenwick Headboards from Heatherly Designs are super fun and super dooper cute. You can really let your imagination run wild with these because you can choose both the fabric and cross stitch colours. The best thing about customising a piece of furniture is that it will reflect your children’s personality and it becomes a feature piece in the room.

On the topic of customising, the Knect4 bed from Mubu Home is another one of my faves. It has a Birch Ply frame and comes in 5 colour options. Birch/White, Birch/Nude, Birch/Latte Grey, Birch/Dusty Blue and all Birch. Gah, so many ‘birch’ words in one sentence but it is a gorgeous looking material that looks great in children’s bedrooms.

Oooo this is a bed head I am dying to use in a kid’s bedroom. The Palm Springs headboard from Family Love Tree gives such a calm and grounded presence. It could be played up with earthy boho colours or styled effortlessly with calming neutrals. This design can easily be made less ‘adult’ with some fun pom poms and a vibrant Moroccan rug, but can also adapt well into your child’s teenage years.

Last but not least Plyroom– I absolutely adore everything these guys create. Their designs are understated and minimal yet, super stylish. Without intending this piece will become a feature piece within itself, especially if the bedding allows the frame and detailing to be visible. With all this chat of beds, I better jump into my own and get some shut eye… Then wake up tomorrow (I mean today it’s almost 1am argh) and have six coffees because I have both my nephews coming over for a play date with Chet.
